The third-generation Apple iPod nano is a significant upgrade over the previous generation, not only in terms of design but also in features.

The new nano has a new look, new video playback capabilities, and a new user interface. It’s also got great battery life, terrific image quality, and is as easy to use as ever.

My wife loves hers (unboxing with comparison to some of the players I have), but I have to get more music for her now. Her old Nano, the one that I put the Izi Skin on, was only 2gb. (this skin was made for 2nd gen and not the 1st gen I put it on)

Well Tanner, a blogger on a Apple Loyalist site, gets absolutely pelt by Apple Fanboys in the comment section. While I think that Microsoft is doing things with the Zune better than Apple, I don’t completely agree with analysis. I still think that Apples “Array” of devices will beat out the sales of the Microsoft Zune offerings this holiday season as expected. I do think that Microsoft has built a nice following of Zune supporters (check out some of the Zune forum sites, some are doing well). It’s still very early in the game for Microsoft. I am sure they didn’t think the Zune would take over the iPod in a short time span. They may never take over the iPod marketshare, but unlike Dell, they are trying.

errr… jailbreaked? The point is, some enterprising computer-savvy persons have succeeded in opening up these two devices’ RAMdrives and allowing the installation of 3rd party applications, as well as restoring iPhone apps such as Google maps and Mail to the Touch that were somehow not included. After initial reports, public beta, and lengthy instructions for jailbreaking your Touch were released, yesterday we got news of an automatic jailbreak, both for Windows and Mac. Where’s the love for Linux, hmmm?

Being able to apply 3rd party applications to the Touch will help transition it from “just” a media player/MID into a functional PDA. Let’s see how fully functional the developers can make it.

It’s ok to say something nice about Apple, right?  Well, they dropped the price of their DRM free tracks to match the price they were selling them before they went Digital Rights Management Free.  Per Steve Jobs, “It’s been very popular with our customers, and we’re making it even more affordable.”

Other companies are offering DRM free tunes, such as Amazon.com, so perhaps that played into Apple’s decision as well.  But regardless, Apple is the 3rd largest music retailer in the US, so they must be onto something. 

Here’s my question, what happens to all those tunes that were bought for $.99 before they became DRM free?  Can customers get credit:)

Blognation has just learned of (and witnessed) the first ever VoIP calls made from an Apple iPhone. TruPhone, the company that is slowly but surely bringing VoIP and affordable international calling to mobile phones all over the world has just added a very important feather to its cap with the alpha-alpha version of what?s sure to be a major buzz-generating application.

To say the application isn?t yet ready for prime time would be a pretty major understatement as it currently requires the use of terminal on the iPhone to tell the iPhone to use its on-board SIP stack to place the call over WiFi instead of via the SIM card. To use the terminal application, in turn requires that you first Jailbreak the phone using an application like iBrickr or iFuntastic. This is not an application for the inexperienced or the faint of heart.
